How To Turn A Loser Landing Page Into Your Next Million Dollar Moneymaker

Quite often, we hear that a new landing page that a brand launched didn't work.

Usually when someone says that a landing page didn't work, they mean that it isn't bringing in sales like its Black Friday every day out of the gate.

Conversion rates aren't better than PDPs.

Ad funnels with the LP aren't converting.

Lambos haven't magically appeared yet.

We have to be honest with you.

Landing pages aren't silver bullets that will magically make you a millionaire.

What they are, however, is the vehicle to transform your business.

And like any great vehicle, you must put in the right fuel.

It's easy to say that the landing page template is the issue.

But in the last week alone, we've heard customers tell us that a template was generating 200 sales a day at the lowest CAC they've ever seen. Other customers using the same template can't get a single sale, on the other hand.

If you've just launched a landing page and you aren't getting improved results, here's what you can do to fix this.

Before we list out the steps, you must internalize one key idea.

This is a game of compounding wins.

Take an honest assessment of your landing page.

Take an honest assessment of your landing page.

Compounding requires time.

Part of the game is waiting it out, giving the pages more data.

However... you can make the game move faster and realize the compounding wins sooner if you do the following things.

  1. Your Offer
  2. Your headline
  3. Your imagery
  4. The featured reviews
  5. The on-page interactions (if you want a button to scroll to a certain section of the page, did you actually link it to do so?)
  6. The angle matching to the rest of the funnel (ex. does the LP imagery and headline match up with the content from the ad driving traffic to the landing page?
  7. The post-click experience (ex. do you go to checkout, PDP, somewhere else?)

ONE:

If you feel even the slightest bit shaky on any of these items, it's time to work hard to improve it.

After auditing hundreds of landing pages that "aren't working," we've discovered that it's usually a combination of these things causing the issue.

The beauty of this exercise is that you have the ability to control the variables.

You can improve your offer. You can change headlines easily. You can swap out reviews in a few clicks.

Which means that the landing page can still work.

TWO: Give it time.

A lot of folks only test for a few days and a few hundred dollars of ad spend against an LP.

We understand that not ever brand is resourced the same, but it's critical that you get a reasonable amount of data (read: traffic) through a landing page before you make major adjustments.

At lower levels of spend, we recommend $1000 of spend to a page or 14 days, whichever comes first.

For higher levels, you can get away with 7 days or less if the spend is there.

As shown in the (hilarious) graph above, compounding is a combination of investment and time.

Investment, in this case, is every component of the landing page.

Time is time.

And sometimes, you just need to wait it out.

THREE: Don't be afraid to cut bait and try again. But, you must try again.

There is a great saying in business:

"You're guaranteed to lose if you quit. If you never quit, you always have a chance to win. And the longer you play, the more likely it becomes that you win."

Many brands try landing pages, don't get immediate results, and then stop testing landers altogether.

This isn't the path.

Alex Hormozi has a great story about trying again (and also volume).

When he was first opening a gym, his mentor mentioned that they put out flyers advertising the gym.

Alex printed out 500 flyers, and got no results.

His immediate reaction? This doesn't work.

He mentions this to his mentor, who tells him that he didn't do enough.

"Our test size is 5000 flyers. And then we do 5000 a day if it works."

Not enough volume.

But what would have happened if Alex gave up after his first test?

He would spend the rest of his life thinking that the marketing channel just didn't work.

When the answer was that he didn't make it work.

If you've gone through steps 1 and 2 and your landing page isn't working, that's okay.

Restructure your funnel.

Scrap your LP.

Try a different format.

But try again.

Landing pages can work for every brand on Shopify.

But you have to make it work.

Hopefully, we've outlined how you can make it work for your brand.
