The Challenge: Scaling A Brand-Focused Business and Growing Conversions

Akarskin’s strong suit has always been their brand. As a premium brand specializing in organic ingredients and high-potency plant-based formulations, the company had built a name for themselves in the skincare community; their team cared strongly about maintaining a stand-out identity against their competitors.

But, the brand lacked conversions. With online store conversion rates sitting at an average of 0.8%, Akarskin’s goal of scaling the business looked like a faraway and near unachievable thing.

In late October 2023, they got Grohak on board, where the growth agency quickly got busy carrying out a number of key fixes: creating hero products, running lifetime value (LTV) analyses, and—perhaps most importantly—launching new conversion funnels and page designs for their online store. The team at Grohak experimented with a wide range of advertisements that drove traffic towards Akarskin’s online store, and tested 12 different angles before settling on the top performing image to run in their ads.

For a while, their numbers were looking better, but in December 2023, Akarskin faced another dip. Their landing page and the website conversion rates were falling once more, despite the fact that the advertisements themselves retained a high clickthrough rate (CTR). 

It was clear to Fabrizio Pittaluga, CEO of Grohak, what this meant. Akarskin’s pages simply weren’t good enough at selling the product—the brand would have to test their page to further optimize for conversions.

The brand needed landing pages, and they needed to test them. Not only did these experiments have to be as time- and resource-saving as possible, they also had to be run without impacting the brand identity presented in Akarskin’s online store.

It was a complex list of requirements to meet, but Fabrizio knew just the solution.

The Solution: Experimenting and Optimizing With Landing Pages

With Replo, Akarskin was able to test the content on their pages at a speed and flexibility far beyond what Shopify could offer, including elements such as creative designs, page layouts, images, and hooks. 

The team at Grohak had their page building process down to a science. They spent two to three weeks (a relatively quick turnaround!) researching and experimenting with landing page elements before reaching a solid winning landing template.

For research, they identified top brands within the skincare space that were featured in Replo’s extensive template library. They’d check out the brand’s website, locate the advertisements they were running, and then scope out a step-by-step walkthrough of the brand’s complete ad to landing page funnel. (Smart move, if anyone asked us).

Once they discovered landing pages which would perform well for Akarskin, the team at Grohak would then model their work after those pages, building directly in the Replo editor using either Replo’s templates, or from scratch. All the content was swapped out and tailored to Akarskin’s product and branding.

Then, the team would move on to testing. They experimented with any and every element on the page: from the hero image, to the copy, to inserting videos, to trying different backgrounds, to even switching up the models’ faces featured in product shoots.

In the end, what worked the best was a combination of a light toned background and a product shot paired with strong benefit statements. These design elements, plus product descriptions that targeted potential users’ pain points, an enticing offer, and a direct buy button, delivered a landing page that Akarskin could count on.

The Result: Supercharging Conversion Rates and Sales With Winning Landing Pages

Akarskin was reluctant to experiment with their landing pages in the beginning, as they were concerned it would impact their company brand. Now, however, Akarskin tests new landing pages every time they release a new product.

For the team at Grohak, this means using the same winning landing page template, changing up the content, and testing as usual. To select what content to put in, the team starts by experimenting with the angle and content on a wide range of advertisements first, before selecting the winning version to build into their landing page template.

Why? Not only does this allow them to quickly and more easily test out a large volume of creative and copy, it also prevents their team from having to build out a full page beforehand. Plus, this process guarantees that Akarskin will almost always end up with a tailored paid media to landing page funnel for every new product they launch.

At the end of the day, it all helps drive towards Akarskin’s end goal—more conversions.

Since working with Grohak and Replo, Akarskin’s conversion rate has taken off from an average of 0.8% on their pre-landing page site to 6-7% on their winning landing page template within 14 days. Not only that, this winning landing page has been able to drive a large proportion of their store revenue, hitting as much as 40% of all store-wide purchases in certain months.

As Fabrizio notes, “I think the biggest benefit of Replo for Akarskin and I think any other brand is being able to test quickly without needing a developer.” No one has a better idea of this than the Grohak team.

With Replo, Akarskin has been able to grow their revenue and convert new customers who are brought onto subscriptions with the brand. During our conversation with Fabrizio in September 2024, he mentions that “... in this month, 29.5% of sales were from pages that were live and being tested on Replo alone."
